We will be hosting artist residencies at Wakehurst Place and Nymans from Friday 1 to Sunday 17 August - you can see the artist at work creating a giant Summer Queen and Autumn King from 11am-5pm each day (except Mondays and Tuesdays). If you would like to participate, there will be drop-in workshops at each garden from 2-4pm each day (except Mondays and Tuesdays).
The Summer Queen and Autumn King will be coming together for their wedding celebrations at Hickstead as the closing show of the Sussex Games.  | | Sunday 21 December 2008 | | Burning the Clocks |  | 6:30pm | Parading through Brighton city centre to Madeira Drive finale site |  | Burning the Clocks acts as an antidote to the excesses of a commercial Christmas - people gather together to make paper and willow lanterns to carry through their city and burn on the beach as a token for the end of the year. No lantern is better for its purpose than any other, all are unique to the maker and precious but all are given up to be burnt to greet the lengthening days.
This year the event will be the culmination of our 21st birthday year, and we will be creating the major clocks of Brighton and Hove to celebrate our time in the city. Community groups will create new year banners inspired by Chinese arts and culture (from calligraphy to tai chi) to decorate the parade route. Chinese and British artists will collaborate to make a centrepiece lantern celebrating the year of the Bull. There will be drop-in workshops in the Corn Exchange for families to make lanterns and join the parade.
