Since 1989, this parade has opened Brighton Festival and now includes participants from local infant, junior and secondary schools, nurseries and playgroups, community groups and bands. Big, bright, colourful and fun it is one of the most spectacular community events in the country with up to 4,000 participants from 75 groups and an audience of 10,000. The Children’s Parade illustrates the empowering effect of creative processes for participants, collaborators and artists. By providing a safe, friendly and non-competitive atmosphere, artists work alongside pupils and teachers to broaden their creative experience, expertise and confidence.
Blue Touch Paper have produced an accessible map for the parade route which starts in Kensington Street and winds down to Madeira Drive on the seafront by way of Jubilee Street, New Road, North Street, East Street and Grand Junction Road.
