Same Sky has devised, and continues to develop, a unified strategy for delivering a broad range of educational projects. There is an educational element to the majority of our projects. We provide a balance between community arts and artists in the community. This integrated approach allows pupils to experience the whole range of artistic endeavour as participants, as clients, and as observers of artists at work.

We provide:
Schools Workshops for pupils: either self contained or attached to larger participatory projects.
Master Classes for teachers and group leaders that disseminate skills, ideas, and expert knowledge of materials.
Collaborations/ Partnerships by providing practitioners to help enrich a school’s existing projects, plays, exhibitions etc.
Residencies by placing artists with schools with open briefs so that they can devise projects that allow them to share their work as artists with the school.
Built Environment developing playground schemes, public art – sculptures, murals etc for openings and or celebratory events.

GARDNER ARTS CENTRE EXHIBITION |
This project has run since 2001 and is designed to bring high quality artistic activity to a number of primary and secondary schools in Brighton and Hove. A lot of art workshops are short and based around one off activities leaving little scope for children to get to know the artistic process involved in researching, devising and then creating the work. We seek to address this by placing practicing artists to work with the schools to produce installations/ exhibition pieces for a month long show in the high profile Gardner Arts Centre Gallery. The workshops in the schools take place in special arts weeks each week involving the artists working for one day with the children. Each exhibit is therefore a collaboration between an artist and the varied school groups.

The final show runs alongside, and is themed to compliment the annual children’s theatre piece at the Gardner Arts Centre that is attended by over 5,000 children and carers. The theatre audience then view the show in the gallery adding to the already large number of gallery visitors. A private view is also held for the children to see their work as exhibiting artists.

UCKFIELD FESTIVAL |
Same Sky have enjoyed three years of an ongoing project linking Uckfield Festival in Ghana. Since 2003 artists have linked up with Uckfield Community Technology College on annual trips to Ghana and produced a sister parade in Kumasi. These artists have brought back their experiences and the flavours of Ghana to share with Uckfield. This secondary school project is based in the curriculum and combines the skills of the art, technology and music departments.
